I found this curious piece of news on my computer today. I thought you might find it interesting to read. Over the last three nights, NBC has led its primetime Olympic coverage with synchronized diving. According to the stacks of letters that have poured into the Fourth-Place Medal Investigative Unit Headquarters, you've all been watching but are baffled by one facet of the competition. After completing a dive, competitors swim to a ladder, climb out of the pool and head immediately to a bank of showers that sit adjacent to the diving boards. Then, in full view of the crowd and NBC cameras, they shower off. Divers keep their suits on, of course, usually appearing only to rinse off their hair and arms. Oftentimes, the divers will receive their scores while still showering off. What's the purpose of this? Theories have ranged from 'to get the chlorine off' to 'they want to have fun' -- seriously, that last one is a direct quote from NBC's diving analyst, Cynthia Potter. Neither are the reason. Divers shower in between each dive to keep their muscles warm after getting out of the pool. The temperature of the pool water and the air are usually different (the pool is usually around 80 degrees, with the air temperature between 68 and 72 degrees). This difference can cause muscle tightness. To combat this, divers warm up in either the showers or a hot tub. Mystery: solved. (Although we're still a bit unclear as to why the showers are out in the open.The water cube cost over $200 million to build. They couldn't have put a privacy wall in?!) hi sl so they shower for muscles to stay warm? i bet they like that they can see their scores too maybe even the rush of being in the olympics and wanted to be a part of it all not leaving the floor just to shower.i think the announcers were looking for things to say just so they didn't have dead air time  i started smiling thinking about different announcers in different sports golf cracks me up because they whisper and don't say much when the golfer is about to smack the golf ball horse racing announcers get all in to it,..  auctioneers talk so fast its hard to understand them baseball announcers take it slow and easy depending on the action just thinking out loud sl god bless my friend have a great weekend coming filled with peace love happiness hugsdan

Hi Dan ! Wise as always ! And I think privacy wall is not needed in that case. Lol! I was amused by your comments on the announcers' words ! Brillinat ! Ahh, miss the Black Sea coast. 30 degrees or more.....I can only dream about it now. I guess it's 22 or 23 here, not bad but not exactly summer. Back to watching some olympic games now with some medals for the Dutch today.

Thanks for the info SL  My guess is that there is so much chlorine in the pool that if they don't shower off straight away, the bathing-suit might integrate  The other theory is, that since Speedo could not be the official sponsor for the Olympics (because Chinese body-frames are very different from Caucasians), they had to use a local designer for the Chinese swimsuits. Hence the immediate shower. Why they did not put an extra partitions for the participants to shower in private, could be lack of extra funds  Just my view. Might not be true It's nice to be insane when No one is looking
