I want to be cremated. Why spend major bucks for a funeral plot? Would just be feeding the worms anyway. Or maybe I'll just donate my body to science, so they can do a thorough study on short asian women with big schnozes.  I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

My aunt passed away recently and my father and I had this discussion, he doesn't want a viewing, well he's getting one now, a viewing is not about the dead, it's about helping the living have closer and to grieve. I've heard people that don't want to view someone in a casket, well they should just not proceed to the front, but there are others that need this. I too plan to be cremated, but not because I don't want to feed the worms, but because I don't want a place for my family to go and grieve forever, when it's over I want them to move on, not bring flowers to a piece of ground every holiday, etc. But I will grant THEIR wishes and let them have THEIR service since that's what THEY need, I won't care at that point.

P.S. How did you get your Post Signature to have color? I keep trying but it adamantly stays black. Grrr I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

I didn't give this part much thought. I am definately going to be cremated. and I know where I want my ashes scattered. I did both for my wife, viewing for those who needed it, and cremation, because I promised.

Absolutely, NO. I don't like people to be looking at my dead body. How about if between they would start saying "oh God, she's just very ugly!". Oh gee, I have no way to defend myself! LOL Now, that I am still alive, I prefer people to look at me and not when I'm already cold and stiff... At least, I would have the pleasure to hear their opinion about me. Wanna join me for a glass of wine?

i think i will leave that one up to my daughter... my mum doesn't wanna be looked at... she just signed to have her bod shipped to the medical school so surgeons can practice on her... for me, i want to be buried back in north carolina, on our old farm... all the family is there... it's a nice, secluded place... -e

I think it is good to talk to your family about these things in advance. If there is something you believe in, state it to them. They may protest at first, but after hearing your reasoning, may over time, come aroudn to your way of thinking.Then, there are no big decisions to be made when people are grieving and no second guessing "did we do the right thing?" People should end their lives in the way that relfects their lives and beliefs.My mom planned her funeral to the T. She wanted to be on display, she wanted attention and sseh wanted family to carry her from the church to the gravesite. It was important to her. We did that in honor of her wishes. That is who she was. I am simpler. I want quiet, beautiful reflections on who I was. A memorial outdoors,with guitar music, hand picked daisies and someone saying I was great and they'll miss me. No body, no ashes at the memorial. Later, spread the ashes under a tree or into the ocean where I lived. Celebrate my life.
