Brazilian Waxing Unlyrical

This is bloody cruel, I say. It's not enough that women typically suffer from extreme anxiety over the state of their bodies when they have to put on their bathers ... they had to start attacking a leggy 5ft 11 Victoria Secret model for being fat.

Karolina Kurkova was recently attacked by the Brazilian press for having "back fat, love handles and cellulite on her butt". They were apparently "horrified" when the 24-year-old strutted the runway at a recent Cia Maritima show looking "uncharacteristically chubby".

Yo. Get a grip. If that is chubby I would hate to hear what they call Britney Spears.

OK, so Kurkova is not looking as fit and toned as she used to, which is rather unfortunate for someone at her age. But by no means is she chubby.

And don't forget the camera piles on weight on most women. I look like a chubby chipmunk on film when I weigh almost the same as one. Which is why I try to avoid cameras.

I reckon Kurkova has just been laying off the exercise the last couple of months and forgot to spray before going out on the runway.

Still, as one of the highest paid models in the industry who allegedly earns $5 million annually with her famous body, she does have a responsibility to keep it in top shape during a swimwear runway show.

From a business point of view, it is not her weight that is the problem. But when the media and public get hung up on her alleged weight and no one remembers the swimwear line, it is clear than that she has failed in her job.

Note to self: Hit gym before wearing bikini when in Brazil.

Cameras can be rather horrible! Those of Paparazzi's are even more horrible!

She looks skinny to me, well she's got a bit more backside than me, but you can't call her chubby

THAT'S chubby???

Marilyn Monroe would've been called a cow by today's Brazilian standards. I shake my head.

I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

Tell me about it. If they can find fault with her, what hopes do normal women have, eh? I do not mean to be rude but I read some of the comments from readers to the original news article and quite a few Brazilians (women at that!) actually supported their countrymen's attack! Shocking.

My question will sound naive to you. But like my eighth-grade Math teacher ever said, "If you don't risk looking stupid, then you'll stay stupid." Here it is:

What did Kurkova forget to spray on, before taking her stroll on the runway? Is there a magic spray that makes cellulite disappear? This must be some kind of trade secret.

I enlarged the photos you included. I wouldn't classify Kurkova as undatable (I'm on a site, who'm I kidding?), but if I was somebody who spent a lot of time studying the back-sides of supermodels on the catwalk, I'd also say that Kurkova looks shockingly, but refreshingly thick and fleshy. For s supermodel.

She looks like she fell off a 1974 pin-up poster.

No, not naive at all. In fact, rather astute of you actually.

Sounds like my grandfather, except his version was "Look stupid so people underestimate you. Learn quietly so they do not realise you are smart. Hit smart so they do not realise it was you." He was a sneaky basturd and that's why loved him ...

OK, when I was in the biz (sic) they used to spray deep heat on the stomach, butt and sometimes on the thigh areas for some of the girls. Yeah, very uncomfortable but if you do that just before you hit the runway, it temporarily tightens things up. Also, you then spray bronzing oil on so it makes everything look tighter as well.

Anyone who thinks Kurkova us undatable is gay. Or terribly, terribly bitter.

But you are right that for a supermodel ... especially for lingerie and swimwear ... her body is not up to the mark at the moment. It's not so much her size but the lack of tone and definition. The curves are there but they need sculpting. Still, I rather a woman looking like that as she appears more healthy than the cadaverous sticks that haunt the runway.

And I think she looks more like a 50s pinup myself. It's just her hair that looks 70s.

Er, yes they can be. But unfortunately for her, those are not paparazzi but runway photographers whose mission is to find the most flattering photos for use on trade mags etc. So they are actually not trying to find the worst shot. So ...

She looks skinny to me too but her butt is a lot bigger than it was in 2007. Guess she has not been working out.

Hmm, I'll let you in on a little secret. When I was very young, I used to pretend to be a bimbo. It worked for many years and was very helpful in my work as it made information gathering extremely easy. Except I got tired of it.

One of my ex-boyfriend's mate's wife met me years later and exclaimed in astonishment that she never realised I had a brain and that she always thought I was a shallow bimbo. And she asked me why I put on such an act. And I told her that it enabled me to find out that her ex-husband cheated on her constantly.

Maybe your ex-gf was playing you too? Just a thought.

this is typical! WOMEN ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SLIM etc etc....

    SAD but true

    thanks for sharing WHF
Actually in the middle east, you are not expected to be slim. In fact, I hear quite often the men and women complain when a girl is too slim-hipped and lacking in curves. Every time I lose weight, the first people to complain are my uncles.

I suppose it is a cultural thing. And you're very welcomed. From Singapore huh? My favourite place to pig out! I miss the laksa!

Did you know Marilyn Manroe was actually smaller than me?? Can you imagine that??? I actually tried to bid for one of her dresses but it was actually too small for me! Unless I wear a corset, which someone told me she did so that made me feel marginally better.

I have never been to Brazil although I have been invited to before. Was actually thinking about it but this just makes me a little leery. I detest superficial people ...

You and I will never worry too much about that as it would interfere with our pigging out. That would be wrong. Wrong, I say!
