I've had good and very bad experiences, so while I sing the praises of the emergency services, Medical and nursing team who recently saved my Sons' life, there has been massive improvements, especially in accountablity. But there is always room for improvements hence league tables, outcomes, monitoring etc.
As for accessibility in the UK, well I can't really complain, when my Children were younger I had insurance for their medical needs, when one of them needed Medical care at the hospital, 'I asked if I should use this insurance, but I didn't need it, they got the care swiftly and as required.
I know other countries are not so lucky.
As for my very bad experience well, that's a story still to be told.
When we are lost in thought, could the reason be that we're on totally unfamiliar terrain?

I have great medical insurance and my recent stay in the hospital was great, I had the best of treatment and the doctors and nurses were wonderful.
However, I received the first Explanation of Benefits from my insurance company the other day. One of my ultrasounds was billed at $800. The hospital had to write of $600 of that per their contract with my insurance company. The insurance company paid their 80% and I ended up paying $40.
If I had not had insurance, I would have been responsible for the entire $800. Now, that is screwed up.
The people who can't afford insurance in the first place, have to pay the most for care. Something just isn't right about that.

I think you are very right, it's the only rich country in the world that doesn't give their citizens health care either subsidized or at affordable rates. But that is not the fault of the government, we the people...like they say, are probably naive and believe all the crap of some politicians who have it too good and don't want to change anything. I know they must be afraid they have to stay in line with us to see a doctor, don't you think? What happens if you get sick and loose your job? This system has to change and people should not have be rejected for preexisting conditions, it's not fair to insure only healthy people. It's all politics, I am curious if anything will change after November with a new president.

Trouble is, at least in the US medicine is a business--more interested in making money, so it is "better" for people to be sick so the drug companies can make a profit.
That said, when I lived in the US, I had one of the best doctors I've ever had...but boy did I pay for it.
Wishing you happiness
