WISHING ON A STAR There are hundreds of superstitions some for good luck and some that bring bad. We all know about Black Cats, walking under ladders, four leaf clovers, Friday the thirteenth,and rabbits foots. Of course my favorite wishing on the first star of the evening. But there are hundreds and maybe thousands of superstitions. The old wives tales say: To predict the sex of a baby: Take a wedding ring and tie a piece of thread on it and Suspend over the stomach of the mother to be. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy. If your nose itches you will soon be kissed by a fool. A cricket in the house brings good luck. If a clock which has not been working suddenly chimes, there will be a death in the family. If the bottom of your right foot itches, you are going to take a trip. If you spill pepper you will have a serious argument with your best friend. If the palm of your right hand itches it means you will soon be getting money. If the palm of your left hand itches it means you will soon be paying out money. If your right ear itches, someone is speaking well of you. If your left ear itches, someone is speaking ill of you. A rainbow in the Eastern sky, The morrow will be fine and dry. If two people say the exact same word, at the same time.. the first to say " jinks jokes you owe me a coke". Then somwhere in your near future, you will recive a free coke (magic)

Sorry to reply to this so late,,my culture is very superstititouse. If the door opens by itself,,than a spirit has come to visit,,if a bird fly's into your house you must KILL it,,for it brings bad luck. You have to "dump" the king salmon carcass back into the river,,or there will be no salmon next summer,,never let a child look in a mirror after midnight for the spirit world will take the babies. Hang a ptarmigan (bird) wing over the door for good luck,,Indian women will become "barren" if she eats bear meat. Indian women should not put on a mans gloves. If you run across a grave on your trapline or fishing spot,,you must offer burnt food to the spirit,to show respect and that the spirit can bring good luck to your trap line or fish. If your house is haunted,,leave cold tea and burnt food at night to keep the spirits happy. These are just a few of MANY that I have to remember. lol
