Beta, I kept My Promise....well, sort of

Dear Beta,

By way of a comment to my recent Blog entitled "A sure way to avoid getting hurt", you propounded the question "How do you avoid Love?"

Let me tell you a story.

I have this aunt, beautiful sweet old lady, who, in her early teens have had a number of suitors but none of them got the nod.

After finishing college, there was this persistent suitor. An engineer by profession, tall, relatively handsome, mild mannered, in short, a good catch from any angle you look at it. He courted my aunt for 12 long years but to no avail. The poor guy decided to moved on and soon, married and settled down.

When asked why she let this one go, she said she would rather stay unattached rather than risk her heart being torn apart by men. She never married.

Twenty seven years later, she bumped into this former suitor of hers while she was on vacation in the U.S.They got to talking and reminisced the past. She also learned that the guy has lost his wife to cancer six years ago. They decide to migrate to the US 15 years ago when they learned of the cancer. After her short vacation, my aunt returned to the Philippines.

A few months later, she had a surprise visitor. Yup, it was the guy. Soon, He became her frequent visitor and after barely over a year, they announced that they were getting married.

On her wedding day, she was crying profusely. when asked whats the matter, she replied the past year was the happiest she had ever been,
"i cry for those lost years i should have been happy with this man, now i pray that the good lord give us a little more time to be with each other"

She was 62 when they married.

hello beta,

I think you just said it. we can avoid love up to some extent but in the end, it catches up. Just like water, love seeks its own level. And when Love wields its power, no 'human' heart is strong enough to repel it and shall ultimatetly succumb upon is will.

thanks for the "audience participation"

take care.

i'll scratch your back...thats it.
