Playing Around with Light

One of the greatest things about photography is learning about light.

Most anyone who has ever taken pictures has quickly learned how badly a picture can be butchered by pointing the camera in the wrong direction.

Even with the coming of Digital Cameras you can still shoot picture after picture and end up with a mess of work dumping them into the recycle bin.

This month I'm learing about the different ways light affects images. I thought I would make some recommendations and show some of the different techniques that I have learned.

Today's recommendations are:

Shoot landscapes early or late in the day. Shadows show vividly and the light is softer. You also get nice additions like fog, frost, animals moving to and from feeding areas, birds on the fly to and from the roosting area and dew before it dissapates. The best thing is you get outside during the most beautiful part of the day

Shoot most images at right angles to the sun.. It makes it easier to rid yourself of unwanted intense direct sunlight and the pleasure of adding the contrast of shadows. Remember though the shadows can be an enemy but in landscapes they generally are more a pleasure than a hindrence.
