...per Jeff Foxworthy you know you live in Chicago....
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May
If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there
If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time
If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number
If "Vacation" means going anywhere south of I-80 for the weekend
If you measure distance in hours
If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again
If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching
If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them
If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit
If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -- you're going 80 and everybody is passing you
If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow
If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction
If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car
If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly"
Being a life long Chicago native, I find these all to be very true.

The heat to A/C and back again is popular in north missouri too.

I've been south of I-80 and I would not go there for a vacation. I would go north into Wisconsin. Dan

Egads, no wonder my brother and his wife headed out to Florida as soon as his Navy assignment in Chicago was done. My sister in law, being a native Floridian, couldn't stand another winter shoveling snow out of their walkway.

I think a lot of the Midwest suffers from the heat to A/C back again phenomena. I'm ALWAYS warm, and the A/C in my van broke and I won't fix it, so sometimes I'm riding with my windows open in the dead of winter.

Hi Dan! I'll be going north (on 94) into Wisconsin around the first week of August for a family vacation. I agree with you about south of 80, though I'll be making many treks in that direction once Drummer Boy starts college - he'll be in Bloomington, IL the next 4 years. Thanks for stopping in!

Was your brother stationed at Grayslake? If so their winters are rougher than ours. I'm luckily in that zone that's south enough of Chicago to not get Lake effect, and west enough of Indiana to not be in the snow belt.
Where in FL are they now? I now spend some quality time in Florida You'll have to let me know next time you're there so I can come down to visit...it would be cool to meet you.

Today was a perfect example of that axiom. It was 83 degrees yesterday, 53 today....from summer to fall from 10:00 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday - it's crazy!!

Hm, I don't recall where it was anymore, since it was in '93--but he's with the Navy, so it would be near the Navy compound.
Sister in Gainesville, brother in Pensacola. Plotting to invade with my brood in 2010 (when youngest big enough to lug his own luggage and the Harry Potter ride's finished), so will give you a heads up. Would be so cool to meet you too.

Cool...2010, I'll put it on my calendar
So with these siblings in the US, how come you haven't succumb to the pull of this country?
Okay, I have to share this. I was going to go put the number in below so I could post my reply, and accidentally clicked on the number itself instead of the spot next to it. I got a Quicktime recording with a woman's voice reciting the number - eight eight five. I guess that's a help for those of us posting here who don't know how to read.

Our temperatures are slowly creeping up. It was in the 60's today and the 70's are expected for tomorrow.
I'll be taking my boys to the Dells in August.

I remember going to the Dells as a kid in the early 60's. I think at that time there was just the boat rides, the Ducks and the water ski show. Not even close to what it is now
