If You Could Turn Back Time...

I was watching an episode of Doctor Who where one of the characters, Rose Tyler, whose father died when she was a baby, went back in time on the day of his death. Out of her desire to save him from the inevitable, she interfered with what was supposed to happen, with disastrous results.

So now I wonder, if you were given one chance, only one chance, to turn back time and change one thing in your life, would you do it, and why?
Yes, I would go back in time
No, I'm quite happy with how my life's turned out

If given the chance, I would go back and tell my Mum while she was alive that I love her

I know how you feel. My mom is now paralyzed and can't speak after a major stroke, and I don't know how much of her mind is left, but I never fail to say "I love you" to her every time I visit her, even though I'm not sure she can still understand.

Somehow I feel that wherever your Mum is now, she knows that you love her.

Thanks for dropping by, fairgo.

Such a tough question! So much has happened in life that's out of my control, and it's hard to know if changing one event would provide greater happiness-there's at least one or two events that I could have done without, that's for certain! But I'd like to think we're all equipped with what it takes to get through all the different situations that arise-so that leads to the question, people that are viewed as "strong" in our society, do they experience more hardship than others b/c they're born with this strength? Or does it develop as each situation arises?

Yes I would go back to the garden of Eden & get rid of the tree of the knowlege of good & evil before Eve had a chance to know a line of B.S.from the serpent when she heard it & told Adam to take Eve & eat of the tree of life.

Reminds me of that Adam Sandler movie, Click, though I've never seen it yet. What if we had a universal remote to rewind, replay, or pause our lives?

I think it's both, because you take two people who go through similar experiences (abusive marriages, traumatic childhood, grave illnesses) and you wonder why some people are able to cope while others can't. Take Mary's (elaine67) baby grand niece---1 lb 11 ounces when she was born, and already thriving, already a survivor. Talk about being born with fighting spirit. Amazing.

It's funny though, because my husband always felt we were meant to meet, no matter what happened. We're the same age, but I went into the same law school 5 years later than he did, because I went to work first for my family after finishing my undergrad. So when I was a freshman law student, he was already out of the law school. But he had friends who also delayed going into law school who were only one year ahead of me, and it was one of those friends who kept insisting on setting me up with him on a blind date.

I kept refusing at first because I kept thinking blind dates were only for those who couldn't get anyone to ask them out, and I was already dating a couple of other guys. But the friend persisted, so as a favor, I said yes. Then right after our first date, my phone went on the fritz, so he couldn't contact me. He actually sent me a special delivery letter asking me out again, whenever I was free. The rest, as they say, is history.

I'd like to think you'd have met your hubby even if you did go to college. Fate, you know.

But Cap'n, if that happened, we'd all be walking around naked again.

Wait a minute...

Was that the plan?

We are who we are because of what we've done, and what we haven't done. All the what-ifs that come to mind, and yet, in the end, we have no choice but to live with ourselves.

Gee, that was profound. I need caffeine and a couple of gummi bears.

hi Munch,
had to go away and think about this one!
Answer... No, happy the way things are... Many things I would have liked to do differently or changed... But at the end of the day, if I went back and changed something.... The follow on of my life would have been very different... And it is possible I wouldn't be here now!
Just glad to have been given a life.
Tone.

In my life I have many regrets, yet the most tragic of all is the regret of not having a child.
