Bon Voyage to Bribook

Have fun in China, you miserable, unfortunate, wretched excuse for a grouch. Yeah, have fun being PAID, A LOT, to do a travel piece on one of the most fascinating places ever, getting to do what most of us can only dream of, for ELEVEN freaking days. That time I cheered you on when you were about to hie off a couple of weeks ago to Chicago for that interview about it? I was just FAKING it, if you must know—I was being eaten up by such jealousy you'd have been slimed with green goo if you had come within 10 feet of me. And when you aced it (as if there was any doubt) I put on my happy face and gritted my teeth and congratulated you.

Me, a frustrated travel writer? Whatever made you think THAT???

But seriously—I'm really happy for you. Really. REALLY. It's just too bad your schedule's too hectic you won't be able to meet anyone from FF. And I doubt Glen the Guide will let you out of his sight.

You take care, and tell us alllll about it when you get back.

(Hint: Start blogging again, you cur!)

I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

I can only say it in Hokkien (Fujianese), not Mandarin, Sherry. We say "sun hong" to people about to travel within the Chinese community in Manila.

And yes, he's going to China on the 20th. All expenses paid, criss-crossing various cities, and being paid a goodly amount on top of it. I'm not jealous, nooooo. I'm REALLY happy for him.

And if he doesn't send me a fridge magnet I am gonna let him have it.

Keeping track of his whereabouts?

I keep having visuals of you with a tranquilizer dart gun aimed at him while he's having dimsum so you could knock him out and tag him with a homing device.

China is huge. i've been to some part of it. Determinedly, i’m hoping to visit Daphne no later than next spring but i'll try to see if I could be there sooner (before it gets very cold) but she doesn't know this yet!! lol

Has anyone advised Brian yet about the fecking toilet's horrors? we now have a portable toilet like training-pot using in managing with Thai’s traffic!! I plan to take it with me the next time I travel to China.. it would certainly make the trip goes much smoother and more pleasantly!

I'd better tell him to pack some adult diapers then, Boom. God knows I could've used it when I was there lined up waiting for my turn in a public stall in the middle of nowhere traveling in between Zhu Hai and Shenzhen.

Holes on the floors they are, yikes. No locks on the stalls too. But hey, he's a guy, he can just do his business standing up, lucky him.

Hope he still has time to pop in here to reply to these well-wishes, Jen, since he's leaving in less than 24 hours. When I talked to him earlier he still had to run to the bookstore to get some new books to bring along for the long flight, in case the movies on board are lousy.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'd enjoy this trip more if I was going for fun. But I'll keep my eyes open big and try to take it all in while I am there. My long, long journey begins .... NOW.

So, who wants a Mao-ist t-shirt when I come back?

I am in Shanghai now, about to embark on my second full day here.

Thinking of all of you, when I get time to have the luxury of thinking. Spent most of yesterday dodging bicycles, motorscooters and all types of solicitors while stuffing my face with dumplings.

I will write more at my blog, with photos, when I get the chance.

On his arrival, Brian bought about typhoon Linfa to Fujian province, as well as thunder storms to Shanghai. He has taken to eat "blood" together with Qingdao beer, has secret deals with smugglers in Nanjing Dong Lu yesterday, and is said to have "ransacked" many large department stores by now.

Those are all what I saw on our news report on TV.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Boom. I tend to have periodic episodes where I just go ga-ga with my shopping, then it's months of calm, then there I go again, aaarrgggghhh!!!

Hubby and I going back to Hong Kong in a couple of months, and we're planning to indulge in a REALLY upscale restaurant (Robuchon a Galera in Macau, with 3 Michelin stars, supposedly the best French restaurant in Asia)--might break the bank, but hey, we only have one life to live, right?
