I'm Full of Croc(s)

6/9/2009 2:25 am
Yeah, yeah, I used to hate Crocs. In fact, I used to hate them SO much I actually joined the FB group, "I Don't Care How Comfortable They Are, You Look Like A Dumbass Wearing Crocs." I mean, rubber clogs as a fashion statement?? Wait, that entire sentence was an oxymoron. There is NO fashion statement at all in rubber clogs. Unless it's "You have abso-freakin-lutely NO fashion sense."

But talk about karma. The Crocs company saw fit to shut all of us embittered nasty snarky critics up by coming out with...heels. 3 inch platform wedges to be exact. Snappily called "Rio," trendy and hip, I fell in love with it at first sight. And they have it in size 5, too!

You have to understand, I'm a woman who tries to avoid flats whenever I can, unless I know I'm going to be on a tour in a foreign country involving a lot of walking while having two hyperactive kids tag along. In that situation, you have GOT to be ready to RUN at the drop of a hat. But if I'm just flouncing around the shopping malls here, going out lunching with my friends, meeting up with clients or just wandering about town, you can bet your bippy I'm in heels. Stilettos. Platform wedges. Kitten heels. So I've got a Napoleonic complex. So sue me. At least I can do something about it in style.

So I have to say, thank YOU, Crocs, for finally coming up with a pair I won't actually be embarrassed to be seen in, and man, are they comfy to boot! I might actually be able to retire my ballet flats soon at the rate I keep wearing this new pair around.

Think about it. I'm not only comfy while gallivanting about, I don't have to be THIS short anymore. What's not to love?

Crocs Rio platform wedges in black, the exact same pair I got.

You are tempting me, Ana.

I bought a pair of pink stilettos in May. When I matched them with my most elegant knitware and skirt, put them on, and wandered for the first time in a newly built shopping center, guess what happened, the heels are so thin that they kept getting caught in the crevices of boards on the ground. So while calmly pulling them out of the nasty crevices, I would also squeeze smile from time to time at anyone who happened to cast curious looks in my direction.

This pair of platform wedges seems to be less that dangerous.

They look good..hmmmm...i wore the other 'crocs' you speak of when i lived and worked in Spain, and they were brill, nothing else was as comfortable in the heat of working in a bar in the height of summer...i didn't really care what they looked like.....with these new ones out i would be 6'1" tall...and the men i really fall for are on average 5'8"......

Ha, I can just imagine you'd get those Croc cowboy boots in violet, to match the Harley, too.

Be very very tempted, Agnes. These babies are soooo comfy like you wouldn't believe. I wear them with my denim shorts and a cute shirt. I feel like I could run a marathon in my pair.

And ugh, I know what you mean about stiletto heels getting stuck.

I'm fine about people wearing them to work, Rach. I have a friend who wears them to garden and says they're absolutely perfect.

What I don't get are grown women wearing, say, lurid fuchsia ones with jibbitz. Jibbitz! You know, those cartoon rubber decors with stubs they attach to the holes of Crocs? At their age! Surely there must be an age where we try not to look absurd anymore?

Wow, and I never knew you were that tall, too! Have you met DDM over there?

My feet actually get tired more easily with very very flat shoes. I need to have a little heel every time. Even my flip-flops aren't that flat! (To see how they look like, check out the Fit Flops site. I got the black ones)

My feet are well designed for high heels,as I have quite an arch but, I just can't adapt to them cause, I am a fast walker and keeping the speed rhythm is important to me.
I cannot stand the very flat ones either - sort of same style of sole as the Fit Flops you have showed me, however I am not such a big fan of flip-flops. Damn fussy!

Flats wise I'm addicted to Geox's ballerina flats. They've also come out with platform wedges (saw a gorgeous pair in HK) but as luck would have it, smallest size they had was a size 6.

I'm more of a FitFlop gal than Havaianas myself, though my sister in law did give me a pair of the latter as a birthday gift once, and they are soooo comfortable, so I can understand why you're addicted.

That's the THIRD time you've maligned my lack of height, Frankie. This is a veritable declaration of war. Start covering your shins, boyo. I'm gonna aim my stilettos at them.

And last I heard, they lock prisoners at Gitmo in a room wallpapered all over with that nude poster of David Hasselhoff with puppies strategically covering his more delicate parts, while one of his songs plays on a loop.

yeah they look cool Ana. i wish i saw this blog of yours earlier. This past year I bought a couple pairs of comfy shoes with hells too, Scholl, i was really surprised to find them on shelves. They even got some compliment!! lol One of them in black, wedges, and they look similar to the picture shown here but the band is much smaller. I don't really follow trends for shoes (my feet are very fussy I must go by the comfort first or I never wear them twice!).

Personally I'm a sandals gal, although I know tiny hells add sexy look on your legs but 3 inches are the highest hells I could tolerate and still comfortable enough. I merely wear hells to work or with evening attires. Luckily there're lots of attractive an inch flats these days.

I'm not wearing hells for a while until I get a new job and back to work. Thus, I just bought several sandals on my recent trip, only to come back home ordered (3 colors) of FITFLOPs i couldn't find in stores (at the last minute). You know (right?) i wanted to make a shortcut from literally working out my butt off.

I know I’m rather high-maintenance but I did work for them. Cheers to womanhood!!

Unfortunately, each time I run back to my flats! I guess, if you haven't learned it when you were a teen, you will never get it really.
I agree! I got too comfortable with sandals too much, even my dad said once they made my feet big and flat out!!!! Big feet are said for girls that are born and work in rice field! sheesh how stereo-type! I'm an eight-inches sized (shoes) female Asian!!

In college, I wore a brand new pair of 4 inch hells once, they really attacked me (my feet)! I couldn't stand and walked bare feet (I was that kind of girls who never cared even if anyone stared at my zits walking in public either!! hahaha) before I went to a small street-shop and had them cut an inch off!

yeah they look cool Ana. i wish i saw this blog of yours earlier.

Geox has REALLY cool platform wedges--I'm just ticked off that their smallest size is 6 (I go from 5 to 5-1/2) so I wasn't able to get them. But aren't Fit Flops just awesome? I love my pair, got them in black.

A good friend swears by her Louboutins when it comes to stilettos. And oh, God--they just happen to have a store in Hong Kong, so I'm going to have to check it out when we go there in August.

i'm not that shopaholic, but i just had to buy something. I got them while walking around shops in Hawaii long ago but I never wore them anywhere else, perhaps they rest quietly in storage. lol
And may they rest in storage forevermore, Boom.

Size 8?? Ack. My niece is a size 9, and she absolutely HATES it.

yeap exactly!!

I'm often in doubt whether they are the same one as on display or not (they never put up size 8 +) ...but always disappointed when the sales person brings in my SIZE! boo hooo they just don't look the same style!
