Night In Three Parts

I.
Across the night, the winds sing, chilled
waiting for no one, they are gone
as a freight train around breathless corners.

II.
I am driving; the highway passes
below me like a smooth grey sheet.
Guarding our passage, sentinel stars
are watching, winking not; it is night.

III.
Alone in my bed, my fingers etch a pattern
of trees on the window; stark
naked silhouettes; the pane is damp and cool.
The hand lies flat against it,
enjoying the cold.

Thanks, Mark. You're right about Part II.

Home....home.
homehomehomehomehome.

I have been so consumed by my upcoming journey that no blog-time has presented itself. I have been living vicariously off of my fellow bloggers' posts.

The nickel tour for those who have been following The Great Escape: 1. I found a house on the Thornapple River and bought it. 2. We are in the midst of selling the CA house and splitting it into three households. This is rather like conducting Pachelbel's 'Canon' in the middle of a hurricane. 3. Cross-country road trip, early December: downloading Simon & Garfunkel's "America" (I've gone to look for America....) and Springsteen's "Born To Run" (baby this town rips the bones from your back / it's a death trap / it's a suicide rap / we gotta get out while we're young....) Looking for suggestions for good road music.

Thinking of doing a road journal but I'm terribly unreliable these days. I am currently being nibbled to death by ducks and can only hope that when I set my back to the West that I'll leave them honking by the Bay.

Til the next time....LK
