...were more than I had expected. I thought I would get my son home, hire someone to come and sit with him, and I would go on about my daily life as ususal. Well, as it turns out, one of the lovely 'reforms' that our govt. has recently made to health care states that it can only be covered if the person needs a 'nurse'. My son does not need anyone with any sort of medical training - he simply needs someone to help him get out of bed, dressed, to the shower ... bath ect. OK .. so the next plan is take him to a 'day-care' type situation for disabled kids, so I can go on working ..... there is not a single one, in this town, that will take someone, if they need help going to the restroom. I couldn't believe my ears. What kind of 'disabled' person DOESN'T need help going to the restroom ?!?!? I took him to work with me for about 3 months ... then it got to be too much for both of us - plus my employer finally said they couldn't have him coming with me, due to insurance reasons. I had to quit. There goes some good govt. reform for ya - welfare is going broke, so let's stop paying ppl. to sit with disabled folks - and get ppl. a little further into the system. H*ll yes I went and got on food stamps ... and medicaid ... if I didn't there is no way we could survive without my income. OK ... off my soapbox now ... but I am still rather perturbed about the whole thing. I am HAPPY to stay home with my son all day .... but not so happy to have to be depending on our unstable govt. to survive. I'd MUCH rather be working ..... And the story continues .... |

maybe you can watch one child in your place so you can have some money...they can drop off to your place...or maybe can hire for someone for just 30 min.to let him go to the bathroom...is he need someone all day with him? Or you can look for closer job so you can come home to check him on your break time that would be great...be strong and think something you can do to make some money while at home...gbu

you're a tough lady...
I wish you more courage and strength to face each day....
and perhaps,jeanmahal's idea is welcoming...
What about if you get a job you can do at home? ...that's common these days, especially with the internet getting the overhand in many business sectors....
A lovely weekend with your son... salsa

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Try to search for online job that is legitimate. Some are just a scam, they just want your money.
Wish you the best and for your son as well.

He needs full time care ... you never know when nature will call ... Right ? Getting an on-line job is a really good idea .... but there are a lot of scams. I dunno ... still trying to work out all the bugs. I had a minor surgery in Nov., that's when I quit working. Something will come through, I am sure. God is with us ... He always has been, so I always expect GREAT things !!! Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone !!!

As if it wasn't hard enough for your son to be disabled already, and for you to struggle to put food on the table. Our government here in the USA gave us disabled folk a 3% raise in our monthly social security pay...an extra $45 a month for me, so my state of West Virginia reduced MY food stamps from $80 down to $14. So $45 gets me minus $66 in food, or a net LOSS of $21!
I could say some nice things about your hair but would it really matter?

and yet this same govt spends millions on weapons and invasion of other people's countries but refuses to take care of its most vulnerable citizens.
Doesn't say much about priorities, does it? Sigh....
I certainly hope that you will be able to find employment that will not only pay your bills, but also allow enough so both of you can have a lovely life.
Wishing you happiness

LL, Hugs.... I can feel you 100%. It took me 3 years to get my son a wheelchair, the Government did not care if he could not walk. My son needs assistance too, he can not walk anymore, needs restroom help, needs to be dressed, turned in bed, out to bed, etc... He can basically use his arms and the muscular dystrophy has claimed the rest of his body.
Since he does not have a "medical" need, as they put it....in other words he does not need a nurse he is not eligible. So on the days that I work past 2:00 when he gets off the bus at our front door I have to pay someone to be with him. That cuts my wages to nothing but milk money. It's is one screwed up system. I am like you and will die fighting for my disabled son's rights.
Stay stong, you are never alone..... love and hugs

TY Misty .. we are gonna be ok. He is having more of an adjustment to not having money than I am ... I have done this all my life .... his grandmother ( who took him from me ) is a millionare. He has never wanted for anything ... except love. He told me ,when he got here, that they never even put sheets on his bed ... cuz they got tired of changing them. He didn't even have an a/c in his room ... and he lived in Texas !!! He had a lot of cool 'toys' and good clothes though ... after-all .. he couldn't go to school looking like he wasn't well cared for !! Pft
